ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Biobased economy

A biobased economy is a type of economy where instead of using oil or other non-renewable sources, people use renewable sources such as plants and other living things to make things. Making products from plants or other living things is called "biobased". Instead of drilling for oil or digging up coal, people in a biobased economy grow plants, convert them into useful materials, and make things from them. This helps to protect our environment because plant-based materials are renewable, meaning they can be used again and again. It also uses fewer natural resources, because it takes much less energy to grow plants and use them then to take resources out of the Earth.
