Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness is a special place where the ground is very different from what you might see in your own backyard. It is a big area in the desert of New Mexico where the rocks and dirt have been shaped over many, many years by wind and water.
Have you ever played in mud or sand and made sandcastles or shapes? That's kind of what has happened to the ground in Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, except on a much bigger scale. The rocks and dirt have been molded into lots of different shapes and patterns, like big hills, small valleys, and even really cool formations that look like you're walking through a maze!
But besides just looking different, Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness is also important for lots of animals and plants that live there. There are animals like coyotes, badgers, and even some lizards that hide in the rocks and dirt. And there are colorful flowers that grow in the ground, too!
Even though it might not be the most comfortable place to explore, Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness is very cool and special because of how different it is from other places you might know.
