Bloom (test)

Okay kiddo, so when people talk about a "bloom test", they're usually talking about something called a coffee bloom. Do you know what a coffee bloom is? It's when you pour hot water over coffee grounds and they soak up the water and kind of puff up.

Now, the reason people do a bloom test is to see if their coffee is fresh. Fresh coffee has a lot of gas trapped inside the beans, and when you pour hot water over it, that gas gets released and causes the coffee to bloom. If your coffee doesn't bloom very much, it means it's not very fresh and it might not taste as good.

So if you want to do a bloom test, you pour a little bit of hot water over your coffee grounds, just enough to moisten them but not enough to make them all wet. Then you wait a minute or so and see if the coffee blooms or not. If it does, congratulations! You've got fresh coffee. If it doesn't, well, maybe it's time to buy some new beans.
