The Bouba/Kiki effect is a phenomenon that shows how our brains can connect certain shapes with certain sounds. If you are shown a picture of something with a curvy shape, like a cloud, and you are asked to associate a sound with it, you are more likely to think of the sound "bouba" than the sound "kiki". Similarly, if you are shown a picuture of something with sharp, jagged edges, like a star, you will more likely associate the sound "kiki" with it than the sound "bouba". Scientists are still trying to figure out why this happens, but it appears to be some kind of connection between the shapes and the sounds.
