ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Bracketing

So, you know how when you play a game or race with your friends, sometimes you want to make sure everyone has a fair chance of winning? Well, when grown-ups do things like take pictures or make predictions about things, they also want to make sure they are being fair and accurate.

That's where something called "bracketing" comes in. It's like making a little fence around something to make sure you don't accidentally mess it up or get it wrong.

Let's say you're taking a picture of a pretty flower in a garden. You might use bracketing to take several pictures of the same flower, but each picture is a little different. One picture might be a little brighter or darker than the others, or focus on different parts of the flower. By taking these "bracketed" pictures, you give yourself more options to choose from later, and make sure you got the best picture possible.

Or, let's say you're trying to guess how much something is going to cost. Instead of guessing just one number, you might make a bunch of guesses that are a little bit higher or lower, and then choose the number that seems to be the best fit. This is another way to use bracketing to make sure your guess is as accurate as possible.

Overall, bracketing is all about being careful and making sure you're doing things the best way possible, just like when you're playing a game with your friends!
