ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Business

Business is like playing pretend store but for real. Think about when you play store with your friends, you pretend to sell things like toys or candy and your friends pretend to buy them. In real life, businesses also sell things but they use money and have real customers.

A business is a group of people who work together to make and sell things. There are many types of businesses, like stores that sell clothes, restaurants that make food, and even companies that make big machines.

Just like when you play store, a business needs to have things to sell. These things are called products or services. A product is something you can touch like a toy or a shirt, while a service is something that someone does for you like cutting your hair or cleaning your house.

To make these products or provide these services, a business needs people to work for them. These people are called employees. Employees can help make the products, sell them or do other important jobs like cleaning the store or answering the phone.

When a business sells their products or services, they make money. This money helps them pay for all the things they need to run their business like buying more products, paying their workers or renting a space to sell their products in.

Sometimes businesses compete with each other to sell their products. This is like when you and your friend have the same toy and you both want to sell it in your pretend store. The business that has the best product, the lowest prices, and the best customer service usually does the best.

In the end, businesses are like real-life pretend stores that people work in to make and sell things to other people. It's an important part of our economy and helps make the world go round.
