Calcium in biology

Hello little one! Calcium is a very important nutrient that our bodies need in order to stay strong and healthy. It's like the building blocks for some of the parts of our body that help us move and keep our hearts beating.

In our biology, calcium is used to help our bones and teeth grow nice and strong. It's also important for our muscles to work properly, like when we run, play, or even when we breathe.

Did you know that calcium also helps our nerves communicate with each other? That means when we touch something hot and our hand quickly pulls back - that's thanks to calcium helping our nerves send a speedy message to our brain that something is hot and we need to move away from it.

In addition, calcium is involved in the release of hormones and enzymes, which play important roles in many body functions like digestion and blood clotting.

So, calcium is very important for our body to function properly and stay healthy. Good sources of calcium include milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, kale, and tofu. It's also important to make sure we get enough Vitamin D (sunshine vitamin!) to help our body absorb calcium.
