ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Camelops

Camelops was a big animal that looked kind of like a really tall and strong camel. It lived a really, really long time ago, way before there were people on Earth. It used to travel around in big herds, just like cows or sheep today.

But Camelops was really special because it was bigger than any camel you could see today. It was over 7 feet tall when it stood up on all fours! That's like as tall as three grown-up men stacked on top of each other!

Camelops had a big hump on its back, just like modern camels. But unlike modern camels, Camelops had two humps instead of one. It also had really long legs and huge feet that helped it walk on sand and rocks.

Camelops lived in North America and usually ate leaves and plants, but it was also known to eat things like bark and twigs when food was scarce. It was really important for the ecosystem because it helped spread plant seeds around and other animals would sometimes hunt it for food too.

Sadly, Camelops went extinct a long time ago, and we can only learn about it through its fossils. But it's still really cool to imagine what it would have been like to see a giant, two-humped camel walking around just like the regular camels we see today!
