Canarian Americans are people who have ancestors from the Canary Islands, which are off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Canarian Americans are descended from Europeans who moved to the Canary Islands more than 500 years ago. Today, many Canarian Americans live in the United States and are proud of their heritage. They celebrate festivals, holidays and food from the Canary Islands, like papas arugadas (wrinkled potatoes) and fish stew.
