ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Carbohydrate

Carbohydrates are like the fuel that our body needs to keep going, just like how a car needs gas to keep moving. They are found in foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, and fruits like apples and bananas.

When we eat carbohydrates, our body turns them into a type of sugar called glucose. This glucose is then used as energy by our body to do things like walk, run, and play.

However, not all carbohydrates are the same. Some are considered "good" carbohydrates, which means they are full of fiber and take longer for our body to break down. Foods like oatmeal, brown rice, and whole grain bread are good examples of this. These types of carbohydrates can help us feel fuller and give us more sustained energy throughout the day.

On the other hand, some carbohydrates are considered "bad" carbohydrates, which means they are full of sugar and can be quickly broken down by our body. Foods like candy, soda, and white bread are examples of this. These types of carbohydrates are not very good for our body and can lead to things like weight gain and tooth decay.

So remember, carbohydrates are like the fuel our body needs to keep going, but it's important to choose the right ones for our body to stay healthy and strong.
