Carding (police policy)

Carding is when police officers stop people on the street and ask them questions or get their personal information. Sometimes, the police will write this information down on a card.

The reason why police do this is because they want to gather information that may help stop crime or catch criminals. However, carding has become a controversial topic because it can unfairly target certain groups of people, such as racial minorities, who may be stopped more often than others.

To make sure that carding is being done fairly, some police departments have created policies that require officers to explain why they are stopping someone, and they have to follow certain rules about how to ask for and record personal information. This helps to protect people's rights and make sure that everyone is being treated equally.
