ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Career counselors

A career counselor is someone who helps people figure out what they want to be when they grow up. Just like how your teacher helps you decide what to do on a project, a career counselor helps adults figure out what kind of job they want to do for a long time.

They usually ask questions like, "What do you like to do for fun?" or "What subjects did you like in school?" They might also give you some fun tests or quizzes to help you figure out what jobs you might like.

Once a career counselor knows what kinds of jobs you might be interested in, they can help you figure out how to get there. Sometimes that means going back to school or learning new skills. The counselor can give you advice on what classes you need to take or what kind of experience you should have.

Overall, a career counselor is like a helpful friend who gives you lots of advice and support to help you reach your job goals!
