Catalan independence movement

The Catalan independence movement is a group of people in the Spanish region of Catalonia who want Catalonia to become an independent country. Catalonia is a part of Spain and has its own language and culture. The people who want Catalonia to become independent want to be able to govern themselves and make their own decisions. They want to be able to decide how their taxes are spent and how to protect their own language and culture. They want their own government, laws, and flag. Some people also want Catalonia to be in the European Union so they can benefit from the same freedoms and laws as other EU countries.
