Chemical reactions

Okay kiddo, you know how when we mix some things together, they can become something new? That's kind of like a chemical reaction.

Let's say we mix baking soda and vinegar. When they come in contact, they create little bubbles and make a fizzing sound. That's because they are having a chemical reaction.

In this case, the baking soda (which is a powder) and the vinegar (which is a liquid) are mixing together and creating carbon dioxide gas. That's what makes the bubbles and the fizzing sound.

Chemical reactions happen when different substances come in contact with each other and start changing. It's kind of like a magic trick because the end result is always something new and different than what we started with.

Scientists study chemical reactions to learn more about how things work, how we can create new things, and even how to solve problems or cure diseases. Pretty cool, huh?
