In the 12th century, Christianity was the most popular religion in Europe. Christianity is a faith based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, who believed in kindness and helping those in need. During this time, the Church played a hugely important role in society. People were expected to go to Church regularly and the Church told people how they should live their lives. People were not allowed to disagree with the Church and would be punished if they did. In the 12th century, most people in Europe believed in Christianity and followed its teachings.
