ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cob (building)

Have you ever built a sandcastle? If you have, then you know that you took wet sand and molded it into a shape. Cob building is kind of like that, but instead of sand, people use a mixture of clay, sand, and straw to make big, strong buildings!

First, people gather up clay, sand, and straw. They mix it all together with water until the mixture is really sticky and can be molded like playdough.

Then, they make a big pile of this sticky mixture and start forming it into bricks. They push and press it into the shape they want until it's solid and strong.

They keep making more and more of these bricks until they have enough to build the walls of their house. Instead of using cement or mortar like in most buildings, they use a bit more of the sticky clay mixture to stick the bricks together.

Finally, they let the walls dry and harden in the sun, and soon they have a big, beautiful cob house! It's strong and it can last for a really long time - and it's all because of that sticky clay mixture.
