Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act

The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) is a law that makes it easier for law enforcement agencies to tap into phone and internet lines to get information they need to solve a crime. This law allows police to listen in to phone calls and read emails and other forms of communication, such as text messages. It makes it easier for police to get the information they need to catch criminals, like criminals who use the internet to commit crimes like drug trafficking, terrorism, and cybercrime.
