ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Compound noun, adjective and verb

A compound noun is when we put two words together to make a new word that means something different. For example, "butterfly" is a compound noun because it's made up of "butter" and "fly", but it doesn't mean a fly covered in butter. It's a special kind of insect with pretty wings.

Adjectives are words that describe things, like colors or how something feels. "Soft" is an adjective because we use it to describe things like pillows or blankets that feel nice to touch. Another example is "yellow", which is an adjective because it describes a color that's bright like the sun.

A verb is a kind of word that describes what someone or something is doing. For example, "run" is a verb because it's what we do when we move quickly on our feet. "Jump" is also a verb because it's what we do when we propel ourselves through the air by pushing off the ground.

So, to sum it up, a compound noun is when we put two words together to make a new word, an adjective is a word that describes things, and a verb is a word that describes what someone or something is doing.
