ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Consul general

A consul general is like a really important person who helps people from their own country when they are traveling or living in another country. They work in a special office called a consulate. Think of it like a really big club where people from your own country can go when they need help, like if they lose their passport, need medical assistance or need help with legal issues.

The consul general is like a leader of this club and makes sure that everyone is safe, happy and getting the help they need. They also have to make sure that people follow the rules of the country they are in, but they also have to make sure that the country they come from is happy with how their people are being treated. It's like being a mediator, kind of like a referee in a game, but instead of a game, they are trying to make sure everyone gets along well.

Being a consul general is a really important job because they help people to feel like they are not alone when they are in another country, far from their families and friends. They have to be really smart, good at solving problems and have good communication skills in both their own language and the language of the country they are in. Overall, they are like superheroes who help people when they really need it!
