ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Contingent work

Contingent work is a type of job where you do not have to work the same hours every week, like in some regular jobs. Instead, the hours and work you do can change a lot depending on what needs to be done. For example, a company may need more people to work on a big project for a few months, so they might hire someone on a contingent basis. That means the person will work for those few months, and then when the project is done, their job ends.
