Contour trenching

Contour trenching is like digging little ditches in your lawn or garden, but they're not for water to flow through like a creek. Instead, they're for plants to grow better and to prevent soil erosion.

You see, when it rains really hard, the water runs down the hill and takes the soil with it. But with contour trenching, you dig little ditches that follow the curve of the hill instead of going straight down. This way, the water can't flow as fast and the soil won't get washed away.

But the ditches also help the plants grow better! When it rains, the water gets trapped in the ditches and soaks into the ground. This gives the plants more time to soak up the water they need to grow.

It's like when you have a glass of milk and you tip it too much and it spills all over the table. But if you tilt the glass slowly, you can drink all the milk without any spilling. Contour trenching is like gently tilting the hill so the plants can get all the water without any spilling over.
