Convention (norm)

Hey kiddo, do you know how we have certain things we do and expect people to do in different situations? Like saying please and thank you or shaking hands when we meet someone new? These are called conventions or norms.

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game, you all agree to follow certain rules to make it fair and fun for everyone. These set of rules are called conventions. In general, conventions are like rules that people follow in a group or society to create a reasonable order that everyone agrees upon.

Conventions can be different in various situations, like at school, in family, or when you go to a new country. People may expect you to greet each other differently, behave differently, or dress in a certain way based on the group's norms or conventions. Sometimes these behaviors may not make sense to you, but it's essential to follow them to avoid making others uncomfortable or not fitting in.

Overall, conventions are guidelines that make social situations more comfortable and predictable for everyone involved. They can change over time and vary across different cultures or groups, so it's essential to understand and respect them to be a part of that society or group.
