ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Counterintuitive

Okay, kiddo, so you know how sometimes things don't seem to make sense at first because they're not what you would expect? Well, when we call something counterintuitive, it means that it goes against our natural way of thinking or what we would normally assume.

For example, you might think that big things are always heavier than small things, right? But sometimes, that's not the case - a very light beach ball can be much bigger than a heavy rock! Or, another example, you might think that the longer you study for a test, the better you'll do. But sometimes, a shorter study session can actually be more effective than a long one.

So when something seems weird or surprising because it doesn't match what we thought would happen, that's what we mean by counterintuitive. It can be confusing at first, but sometimes it helps us learn new things and challenge our assumptions.
