ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cross-device tracking

Hey kiddo! Cross-device tracking is when the internet follows you around to figure out what you like to do on your computer, phone, and tablet.

Let's say you play a game on your tablet, then later on your mom's phone, and then on your dad's computer. Even though you're using different devices, the internet can learn that these devices all belong to you and start showing you ads for the game you played earlier.

This is because when you use these devices to go online, they all leave a little trail that tells the internet where you've been and what you've done. By putting all these trails together, the internet can create a profile of you and show you ads that it thinks you will like.

But don't worry, kiddo! There are ways to protect your privacy and stop the internet from following you around. You can turn off tracking in your settings or use software that blocks these tracking methods. Just remember, it's always important to be safe online!
