Crude oil

Crude oil is like a big bottle of juice that comes from the ground. Just like you need juice to make you feel strong and healthy, we need crude oil to make things that help us every day, like gas to put in our cars, heating oil to warm our houses, and even the plastic toys we play with!

Crude oil is made up of tiny things called molecules, kind of like little lego pieces. These molecules are separated into different groups based on their size and shape, and each group has a different use. Some groups are used to make gas for our cars, while others are used to make things like shampoo or even the soles of our shoes!

But getting to the crude oil can be hard work. It's usually underground and we need to dig deep down to get it out. Once we find it, we use big machines to dig it up and pump it out of the ground. We then bring it to special factories called refineries where the crude oil is separated into all of the different groups of molecules.
