ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

CueCat

CueCat was a barcode scanner that was given away for free in the late 1990s. It was shaped like a cat and connected to your computer via a cord. You could use it to scan special codes printed in magazines or books which would take you to a website related to that article. It was supposed to make it easier to shop online, but it didn't really catch on and has now been mostly forgotten.
