ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Culinary name

Okay kiddo, do you know what food is? It is the yummy stuff we eat that gives us energy and makes us grow. Imagine cooking a meal and naming it just like your mom or dad named you. It's kinda like that.

So, culinary names are special names given to dishes just like our names. But these names tell you what’s in the dish or how it’s cooked. For example, spaghetti bolognese is a culinary name for a dish made of spaghetti pasta and a tomato-based sauce with ground meat.

Sometimes, the culinary name comes from the place where the dish originated, like pizza Margherita from Italy. It's named after Queen Margherita because of its three colors (red tomato sauce, white cheese, and green basil) that represent the Italian flag.

Culinary names can also describe the way food is prepared like boiled, grilled, or baked. Each name tells you what cooking method was used to make the dish taste yummy.

So, in summary, culinary names are special names given to dishes to tell you what's in them or how they're cooked, just like your name tells people who you are.
