Darwinism is a theory that explains how living things change over long periods of time. Charles Darwin first thought of this theory in the 1800s. He noticed that sometimes animals look different from their parents and that over time, certain traits become more or less common. Darwin believed that these changes happen because of something he called 'natural selection'. This means that animals with traits that are helpful for survival are more likely to survive and have offspring who also have those traits. So, over time, animals evolve and become different from the way they used to look. This is why we see so many different animals with different characteristics today.
