ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dataism

Dataism is the idea that data is really important and can teach us a lot of things. Imagine you have a big puzzle, but you don't know what the picture looks like. You can put it together and start to guess what the picture might be. That's what people who use data do. They collect lots of information, like how many people are happy, what things they like to eat, and where they live. By looking at all of this information, they can try to learn things they didn't know before. It's kind of like being a detective!

Some people think that data is so important that they believe it can answer all of our questions and solve all of our problems. They think that if we collect enough data, we can learn everything we need to know about the world and how to make things better.

But other people worry that relying too much on data can be a problem. They think that there are some things that data can't measure or understand, like love or creativity. They also worry that people might start to make decisions based only on data, without thinking about what's really important to them.

Overall, dataism is all about using information to try to learn new things and make better choices. But like everything else, it's important to use data responsibly and with care.
