ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

David Premack

David Premack was a very smart person who studied how animals (like monkeys) learn and make choices. He found out that animals are more likely to do something they really like (like eat a banana) if they have to do something they don't like as much (like push a button) first. This is called "preference."

So, if you were a monkey and you really wanted a banana, but you had to press a button first, you would press that button because you want the banana so much. David Premack discovered this and he named it the "premack principle."

His discovery helped people understand how animals make decisions and also helped them train animals to do things they might not want to do by rewarding them with things they really like.
