ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dealignment

Dealignment is like when you and your friends used to always play together and wear matching hats, but now some of your friends have started to wear different hats and play with different people.

It’s like when people used to always be loyal to one certain political party or group but now they don’t feel as connected with that group anymore, so they might not vote for them or support their ideas as much.

It happens when people feel like the political parties or groups aren't representing their interests very well or they don't agree with their ideas anymore, so they start to look for other options or become more independent in their political beliefs. It's like they're not as attached to a particular group or party as they used to be.
