ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Political realignment

Political realignment is when a lot of people change their minds about what they believe in politically. It's like when you and your friends used to love rubber ducks, but now you might think they're silly and like dinosaurs instead.

In the grown up world, this can happen when a lot of people in a country start to feel like their current political party isn't representing them or solving problems the way they want. They might start to look for a different party that better represents their beliefs and values.

Sometimes this can happen because there are big events or changes in society that make people rethink things. For example, if there is a big financial crisis or a war, people might start to feel like they need a new approach to solving these problems.

When political realignment happens, it can have a big impact on elections and who gets elected to lead the country. It can also change the priorities of the government and what policies they focus on.
