Flip-flop (politics)

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen those sandals that have one strap that goes between your toes and another strap that goes around your heel? They are called flip-flops because they flip and flop when you walk.

Well, when we talk about flip-flop in politics, we don't mean those sandals. It's something different!

In politics, we use the term flip-flop to describe when a politician changes their mind or position on an issue. For example, if a politician says they support a certain law one day, but then says they don't support it the next day, we would say they have flip-flopped on that issue.

Sometimes, people think flip-flopping is bad because it can make politicians look like they're not trustworthy or like they're just trying to please people instead of doing what they believe is right.

But other people think that changing your mind or position on an issue can actually be a good thing because it shows that you're open to new information and willing to reconsider your beliefs.

So, that's what flip-flopping means in politics, kiddo. It's when a politician changes their mind about something.
