ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Decathlon

Imagine going to a big store with lots of different toys and games. Now imagine that instead of just toys and games, the store has EVERYTHING you need to play 10 different sports! That's what a decathlon is.

A decathlon is a competition where athletes have to compete in 10 different events. These events are:

1. 100-meter sprint – running as fast as you can for 100 meters
2. Long jump – jumping as far as you can from a standing start
3. Shot put – throwing a heavy metal ball as far as you can
4. High jump – jumping over a bar without knocking it down
5. 400-meter sprint – running as fast as you can for 400 meters
6. 110-meter hurdles – jumping over hurdles as fast as you can for 110 meters
7. Discus throw – throwing a heavy disc as far as you can
8. Pole vault – jumping over a bar with the help of a pole
9. Javelin throw – throwing a long spear as far as you can
10. 1500-meter run – running as fast as you can for 1500 meters

So, in a decathlon, athletes have to be really good at running, jumping, throwing, and sprinting to do well. They get points for how they do in each event, and the athlete with the most points at the end wins.

Decathlon is not only about being strong and fast but also about having good technique, skill, and endurance. It's a very challenging competition but also a lot of fun to watch, just like going to a big toy store with lots of different things to play with!
