ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deculturalization

Deculturalization is when people try to erase or change someone's culture, which is like the things they believe in and the way they live their life. Imagine if someone told you that the things you liked to do or the things you believed in were wrong, and they made you stop doing them. That would be really sad and hard for you.

Deculturalization happens when people try to force others to forget their own culture and adopt a new one, which can make them feel like they've lost a part of themselves. It can happen because someone thinks their culture is better than someone else's, or because they want everyone to be the same.

This is not a good thing to do because everyone should be able to keep their own culture and be proud of it. We should celebrate and appreciate that people come from different cultures and we can learn from each other.
