ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Delta ray

When we think of big objects like cars or trees, we expect them to stay in one piece when we touch them. But when we look at tiny things like atoms, they can easily break apart and send pieces flying around. Sometimes these pieces are very small and don't do much, but sometimes they can cause a lot of damage.

One of these tiny pieces is called a delta ray. When an atom breaks apart, it can release a fast-moving particle called an electron. This electron can then bump into other atoms and knock off more electrons or even entire chunks of the atom, creating a shower of little particles that we call delta rays.

Even though these particles are very small, they can cause a lot of problems in sensitive equipment like cameras or sensors. That's because they can travel long distances and create little sparks of electricity that interfere with the signals in these devices. So even though we can't see them, delta rays can still have a big impact on our technology.
