Democratic republic

A democratic republic is when people in a country get to vote to decide who should lead the country and make laws. The leaders make sure that everyone in the country has to follow the same laws and treat everyone fairly, no matter how rich or poor they are, their skin color, or what language they speak. Everyone gets a say in how the country is run, even if they don't agree with each other.
