ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Derogation

Derogation means making an exception or breaking a rule in certain situations. It's like when Mommy or Daddy says you have to finish your vegetables before you can have dessert, but then they say it's okay to have dessert first if you're really not feeling well. That's an example of derogation - the rule about eating your vegetables was broken or changed due to a special circumstance. In the same way, sometimes laws or policies can be changed or not applied in certain situations if there is a good reason to do so.
