ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Derrick

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a very big straw that you use to drink water from a glass. Now, imagine that straw is much much bigger and taller than you, almost as tall as a really big tree! That tall straw is what we call a "derrick".

Derricks are really tall structures that are commonly used in the oil and gas industry. They help us drill deep into the ground to get to the oil or gas that we need. Just like how you use a straw to drink water, we use the derrick to pump up oil and gas from deep underground.

Derricks are made up of a lot of different parts, like long metal legs that keep it stable, and a big platform at the top where the workers can stand. There's also a big crane attached to the derrick that lifts heavy equipment up and down.

So, that's what a derrick is - a really big straw-like structure that helps us get oil or gas out of the ground. Cool, huh?
