Desert Mothers

Desert Mothers were women who lived in the deserts of Egypt in the 4th century. They were women who had devoted their lives to living in solitude, in order to be closer to God. They lived in small, remote caves and communities and spent their time in religious contemplation and prayer. They often worked together to care for the poor and sick, and followed a life of service to others. They were seen as spiritual teachers and guides, and many people sought after their wisdom and advice.
