Do you know what a detector is? It's a special tool that helps people find things. For example, when you lose a favorite toy, you might use a detector to help you find it.

There are many different types of detectors, but let's focus on one in particular: a metal detector. This tool is used to find metal objects that might be hidden under the ground.

When you turn on a metal detector, it sends out a signal that travels through the ground. If there is any metal nearby, the signal will bounce back to the detector. This tells the detector that there is something metal under the ground.

Now, the detector doesn't just tell you where the metal is. You have to use it to figure that out! You can move the detector around the area where the metal was detected, and it will tell you how strong the signal is in different places. So if you move the detector over one spot and the signal is really strong, that probably means the metal is right under that spot.
