Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994

Okay, kiddo, so let's talk about the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, or the "DSHEA" for short.

You know how Mom and Dad always remind you to eat your fruits and vegetables because they're healthy for you? Well, there are other things you can take that aren't exactly food, but can still be good for your health. These are called "dietary supplements" and they come in the form of vitamins, minerals, herbals, and more.

The DSHEA is a law that helps regulate these dietary supplements. It says that they need to be safe for people to take and not misleading. Before the law was passed, dietary supplements didn't have to be approved by the government before they went on sale. This meant that some supplements could be really bad for you and not tell you on the label.

Now, with the DSHEA, the government can take action if a supplement is found to be unsafe or misleading. Companies that make supplements also have to follow certain rules about labeling and advertising them. They have to tell people what's inside them and how much of each ingredient there is.

Basically, the DSHEA makes sure that dietary supplements are not only healthy but also safe for people to take. So, always ask Mom or Dad before taking anything other than your fruit snacks!
