ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Diversity is like having a lot of different types of toys to play with. Just like toys, people come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, colors, and have different abilities and personalities. It's important to have different kinds of people because we can learn so much from them and they can teach us new things too.

Equity is like making sure everyone gets a fair share of the toys. If we only give one person all the toys, they'll have a lot of fun, but everyone else will be sad and bored. We want everyone to have a chance to play and have fun.

Inclusion is like making sure everyone is invited to the playdate. You don't want to leave somebody out just because they look different or have a different toy than you. We want everyone to feel welcomed and included in our games, whether they look, speak, or act differently than we do.

So when people talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion, they are trying to make sure everyone feels included and valued, that everyone has a fair chance, and that we celebrate our differences instead of being afraid or rude because of them.
