Divide and rule

Divide and Rule is a type of strategy used by some people to try to get control over many people or things at one time. It means to divide large groups of people into smaller groups so that it is easier to control them. For example, a bad leader might divide a group of people by their religion or race in order to keep them from uniting together against the leader. This way, the leader can control them better by using divide and rule.
