ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Divisibility

Okay kiddo, have you ever tried to split a cake between your friends? Sometimes it's easy if you have just the right amount of friends, but what if you have more friends than slices of cake? Well, that's where divisibility comes in!

Divisibility is all about being able to divide things evenly without any leftovers. If a number is divisible by another number, it means you can split it equally into groups of that number without having any leftovers.

Let's practice! Think of the number 12. Can you divide it evenly by 2? Yes! 12 divided by 2 equals 6 with no leftovers. How about 3? Yes! 12 divided by 3 equals 4 with no leftovers. But what about 5? Nope! You can't divide 12 evenly into groups of 5 – you'll always have some leftover.

So, when we talk about divisibility, we're looking at whether a number can be divided into groups of another number without any leftovers. Usually, we use divisibility to help us with math problems, like figuring out factors or common multiples.

Hope that helps, kiddo!
