Okay kiddo, so you know how when you have a big piece of cake, you can cut it into smaller pieces to share with your friends and family? Well, in gardening, we have something similar called division!
When we divide plants, we take a big plant and break it up into smaller pieces. Just like cutting a cake, we have to be careful not to damage the pieces too much. Each piece we make is its own separate plant and can grow all by itself.
So why do we divide plants? Well, sometimes plants can get too big for their pot or the place where they're growing. When that happens, their roots start to get crowded and they can't get enough nutrients and water. That means the whole plant might not grow very well, or it might even die!
By dividing the plant, we give each little piece more room to grow and more access to the nutrients and water it needs. Plus, now we have more plants to share with our friends!
I hope that makes sense, little one. Do you have any more questions?
