Double copula

Imagine you have two groups of friends, the first group is called A and the second group is called B. Now, imagine you want to invite someone to play with both groups, but you want to make sure they are friends with at least one person in each group. This is kind of like what a double copula does.

A double copula is when we use two "linking verbs" to connect two different parts of a sentence. In grammar, linking verbs are words like "is", "am", "are", "was", "were", "be", "been", and "being". A copula is just another name for a linking verb.

So, when we use two copulas in one sentence, we are really making sure that both parts of the sentence are connected properly. It's like having two requirements before you can do something. Just like in our example with the friends, we need someone who is connected to both groups before we can invite them to play.

A common example of a double copula is the sentence "She is happy and healthy." Here, the first copula "is" connects the subject "she" with the adjective "happy", and the second copula "and" connects the adjective "happy" with the adjective "healthy". Together, both copulas make sure that "she" is both happy and healthy.

So, to summarize, a double copula is when we use two linking verbs in one sentence to connect two different parts of the sentence properly, just like making sure someone is friends with both groups of friends before inviting them to play.
