ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Double exposure

Double exposure is like putting two pictures on top of each other. Imagine you have two pieces of paper, one with a picture of a tree and another with a picture of a flower. If you take both pieces of paper and stack them on top of each other, you can see both the tree and the flower at the same time.

In photography, a double exposure is when a photographer takes two pictures on the same film or sensor without advancing the film or changing the digital image. This causes both pictures to be combined in one image. This can create some really cool effects like having a person's silhouette overlaid on a city skyline or a flower superimposed on a person's face.

It's like taking two pictures with one shot! Imagine snapping a photo of your friend, then deciding to take a picture of the sky. But instead of taking two separate pictures, you take one picture and both your friend and the sky appear in the same image. It's like magic!

Double exposure can be done in old-school film cameras or in digital cameras. It can also be done with photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop but that's a little more complicated to explain. Overall, double exposure is a really fun way to create unique and artistic photos!
