ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Drain (plumbing)

Drains are like magical tunnels that help water and other things go away. When you take a bath or wash your hands, the water goes down the drain and magically disappears. The reason why it disappears is because there is a pipe that goes down from the sink, tub, or toilet and leads to a bigger pipe which eventually goes outside. The bigger pipe takes all the water and basically flushes it away outside. So when you open a drain, you are basically opening the door to that magical tunnel and letting things go away.
