ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Drivetrain

Hello there! Do you know what makes a car move forward or backward? It's the drivetrain!

The drivetrain is like the car's skeleton. It's all the parts that help the car's engine send power to the wheels so that they move the car. So let's imagine we're looking underneath a car right now.

First, there's the engine. It takes fuel and turns it into power. Next, the power travels through something called a transmission, which helps it get to the wheels at just the right speed. The transmission also helps the car go faster or slower, depending on how hard you press the pedals in the car.

Finally, the power is sent to the wheels themselves by something called the driveshaft. The driveshaft is just a fancy name for a long metal bar that connects the transmission to the wheels at the back of the car.

When the wheels receive the power, they turn and the car starts moving forwards - or backwards, if the driver wants to reverse the car.

And there you have it, the drivetrain is like the car's skeletal system that helps turn power from the engine into movement!
